GMV NSL is the leader in server-side Galileo PRS receiver solutions, developing the technology that unlocks PRS for mass-market use.

The Galileo Public Regulated Service (PRS) uses encrypted ranging signals making it inherently secure against spoofing attacks (see for example This service is for exclusive access to government-authorised users. Conventional PRS receivers would incorporate a keyed security module to be able to receive the signals. 

Together with UK partners QinetiQ and Airbus D&S, GMV NSL developed an alternative solution. Codenamed EXPLORERS, this cloud-receiver system delivers secure positioning, navigation and timing.  The distributed EXPLORERS architecture places all classified Galileo cryptographic processing in a secure service centre thereby reducing cost and operational requirements on the user terminals. 

EXPLORERS cloud systems open up the use of authenticated GNSS to a much wider range of public services where it is critical to ensure that the position and/or timing information can be trusted. Cloud services make PRS suitable to many more uses by enabling affordable and secure terminals that remove limitations associated with cryptographic material and key distribution. NSL's heritage is in geodesy and geomatics with members of our team being amoungst the forerunners of the processing of carrier phase GPS for high precision positioning and of the use of statistical quality measures to quantify positioning and navigation performance across a variety of market sectors.  We have continued to work in this area and have built a set of world leading software, tools and libraries that incorporate the very latest GNSS developments and augmentation of GNSS with other sensors.  Software is written to software classification DAL-C and DAL-D.

GMV NSL's software-defined radio technologies have the capacity to digitize, acquire and track satellite signals from the full complement of GNSS systems, including GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, Compass, QZSS, EGNOS, GAGAN, MSAS and WAAS.

STEREO is a fully flexible dual-chain GNSS Radio Frequency Front End (RF FE) that is being used for prototype development, signal and system testing, research, and teaching.

Stereo contains two FEs, one covering the Upper L-Band and the other covering the full RNSS spectrum allowing the following signals to be tracked and acquired:

  • GPS L1/L2/L2C/L5
  • Galileo L1/E5a/E5b/E6/AltBOC
  • GLONASS G1/G2/G3
  • Compass B1/B2/B3
